Ninth Grade Portfolio Requirements
All students are responsible for writing these entries and placing required writings in their portfolios in their English classrooms. It is the student’s responsibility to meet all required deadlines.
Portfolio requirements:
One assignment from this portfolio must be completed, reviewed, edited, and rewritten using Google Docs or a similar Internet tool. Documentation of submission, editing, and any other applicable times or information needs to be stapled to the corresponding portfolio item.
The completed portfolio score that includes evaluations for each writing sample will equal a fourth quarter test score.

Ninth Grade Portfolio Requirements
All students are responsible for writing these entries and placing required writings in their portfolios in their English classrooms. It is the student’s responsibility to meet all required deadlines.
Portfolio requirements:
- Notes Evaluating a Speaker. Notes need to be a legible evaluation of a speech or presentation.
- Literary Analysis essay. Analysis should be based upon either some aspect of the author’s craft or its impact upon the reader. This analysis should examine a text from outside the United States. Provide an objective summary of the text as an appendix to the analysis.
- Character Analysis. Character should be selected from a significant literary work covered in class. Analysis should be presented using multi-media tools or a multi genre approach.
- Poetic writing. Model the poetic devices of a mentor text to enhance meaning. Deliver the piece effectively before the class (oral interpretation).
- Narrative. Can be personal or fictional writing done as memoir or traditional narrative. Evaluate self and others using a scoring guide or rubric.
- Self-Reflection and evaluation of informational writing based upon a criteria- for example a rubric, checklist or other evaluation tool. Include an accurate summary of the text.
- Editorial piece-selection will be one sent for submission to a paper or magazine. Must cite relevant information and other supportive texts to add credibility to argument. Use technology throughout the writing, revision, and publishing processes.
- Research paper- ROUGH DRAFT with FINAL DRAFT on top. Research will be based upon the characteristics that distinguish literary forms and genres such as through an author with a pre-determined research question about the context of that author’s work or the author’s (or subsequent authors) treatment of a particular theme or topic.
- Text of a persuasive speech delivered in class. The speech must be written as a speech with awareness to audience and purpose. Speech must be 2-3 minutes in duration. Part B: Notes and a minimum one-page evaluation of at least three other peer speeches delivered in class.
- One written assignment from each class. The assignment should be something that has been graded and returned to the student. There should be six (6) written pieces to fulfill this requirement.
